What Adulthood Really Means (And Why It Scares Me)
When do we let go of our dreams and accept defeat?
Lately, I’ve been thinking about doing a Jack Kerouac.
Not familiar with the American authors work or have no idea what I mean? Let me fill you in.
Essentially, Kerouac spent a large portion of his life on the road, writing and soul searching, the evidence of which van be found in On the Road which is probably his most famous novel and my personal favourite — Lonesome Traveller.
That, and getting sucked into van life videos on TikTok has made me question what on earth I’m doing with my life and whether im wasting my life shackled to a job I don’t get any purpose out of, and paying most of my money to line a landlords pocket when I could be out there exploring the rest of the world.
Which leads me onto one of the scariest things I find about being an adult.
There’s no one telling you what to do, and somehow you have to make it on your own.
But it’s never that easy. It’s a lie that we can do anything we set our minds to because so many things such as money hold us back.
Which makes me wonder, when do we let go of our dreams and accept defeat? When do we decide on a radical career move?
