A doctor went to Punjab for the darshan of Guru Gobind Singh Ji. After meeting Guruji, Guruji told that doctor to go and serve the needy. After coming back he got engaged in the service of the patients. Soon he became famous throughout the city.

Once Guru Gobind Singh Ji himself came to his house. The doctor was very pleased. But Guruji said that he would stay for a while. Then a man came running and said, “Doctor, my son’s health is very bad. Hurry up otherwise it will be too late. The doctor was very confused. On one side was the Guruji, who had come to his house for the first time. On the other hand there was a needy patient.

Eventually after thinking a while, the doctor gave priority to “karma” and went for treatment. The patient’s condition improved after about 3 hours of treatment and care. After the patient’s health improved, the doctor left for his home.

On the way, the doctor thought sadly that Guruji did not have time and that’s why he might have left by now, but still the doctor started running and trying to reach back home as soon as possible.

He was very surprised when he reached home. Guruji was waiting for him humbly. The doctor fell at his feet. Guru Gobind Singh Ji embraced him and said, “You are my true disciple. You have given importance to your work, and today I am very happy because the biggest service is to help the needy.

This saying ‘Karma is worship’ establishes a relationship between God and your work. Whatever religion you follow — Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Sikh. Your daily actions, whatever you do, what you say, etc. are worthy of worship. If people understand its meaning in right sense, it will surely change the scenario of world economy positively and will help people to face tough challenges in life. If we follow it well in our life, it serves as the key to success, progress and happiness.

If we make a comparison between work and worship, we find that even God becomes happy with a hard working man instead of a lazy man without work. So we can say that work is worship because worship without work is nothing but worship without work is everything. If we look back to history, we find that all the great people who achieved greatness did so only because of their immense passion to work in their respective fields. He was someone who didn’t do things differently, but did things differently with a high level of passion and commitment to his work. Work is the true essence of life which brings great ideas to mind and makes people great persons.

The entire civilization of man has developed over the years because of their hard work. All the inventions and discoveries in the field of science result in continuous hard work of human beings with patience. Consistent work in the right direction and in the right field leads people to a successful career and move forward in the future.

Karma is similar to Dharma in the sense that it involves action. Dharma, however, defines what action to take, where Karma takes into account negative and positive action. Selfless acts add to the positive, while selfish actions add to the negative. “Seva” is seen as the highest form of dharma (righteousness). “Seva” has been said to provide good karma which facilitates the soul to obtain moksha (emancipation from the cycle of death and rebirth). Selfless service or “Seva” is a service which is performed without any expectation of result or award for the person performing it.
