Showing resilience during these tough times is hard, but millennials are trying their best to maintain a clear head and stay positive

The Buoyant Millennial

  • Indian millennials and Gen Z seem to be the most resilient in the face of adversity, aiming to create a positive impact on the larger community.
  • While the Covid-19 crisis has brought along immeasurable uncertainties, 85% millennials and 74% Gen Z agreed that policymakers are taking necessary actions in time.
  • Interestingly, when compared to their global counterparts, both generations in India were more optimistic concerning the entire scenario.
  • Around half of the millennials and Gen Zs are positive that their financial situation will improve in the near future.
  • However, 54% of Gen Zs and 57% of millennials agreed that mental stress is at an all time high. And the primary reasons for stress include ‘family welfare, long-term finances, and job prospects.’
  • Other reasons contributing to this tension are related to the fear of getting infected. Nearly 42% of millennials expressed concerns about commuting to work, while 46% have been reluctant to the idea of eating in common spaces with others.
  • Nearly 58% of millennials and 56% of Gen X professionals have been concerned about being exposed to people neglecting safety precautions.
  • Having said that, 86% of millennials and 83% of Gen Zs stated that the option of working from home should be continued for the coming months, and that it would relieve some amount of stress related to the fear of contracting the virus.
  • According to a few human resources experts, older workers have found it more difficult to adapt to remote working than their younger cohorts.
  • “The ‘always on’ style of work today has taken a toll on the mental health of Gen Z and Millennials. The fear of falling behind in the so-called race, and losing out on time to ‘accomplish’ are feelings that are strong contributors to their increasing uncertainty and stress.” — Saanya Malhotra, Reputation Analyst at The Mavericks
