Millennials miss their professional working space, where people can interact with their colleagues and share day-to-day experiences.

Work from Home — New Normal or Abnormal?

  • Through our survey and report — Rebooting 2020: A Story of Covid-19, and Shifting Perceptions, we found out that ‘work from home’ seems only like a short-term prospect for most millennials, as many are excited to resume their normal routine sooner rather than later.
  • While ‘work from home’ seems to be the ideal solution amidst the crisis, it is certainly challenging to most of the population, and even more so amongst the millennials.
  • About 81% millennials, and 94% Gen Z expect to return to work within the 30 days after the lockdown, which is much higher compared to 64% of Gen X wishing for the same.
  • Additionally, 75% of millennials are optimistic about returning to public places within 3–4 weeks from the end of the lockdown. These proportions are much lower for older generations
  • The lockdown has altered their lifestyles in a significant manner, where a large chunk is conscious of the hardships of the future and aim to invest relatively less in order to remain secure for any uncertain expenses.
  • From the lack of interaction amongst colleagues and friends, the fear of not being perceived as productive, to no symbolic detachment between ‘work’ and ‘personal’ space, this routine is a big reason behind the declining mental health of a significant population.
  • Apart from the working population, college going students are also experiencing a disturbance in mental health like generalised anxiety disorder, restlessness, and a sense of hopelessness concerning the future.
  • This is essentially the time for mental health experts on telemedicine platforms or apps that offer online counselling sessions to step up.
