April is Autism Awareness Month, and to further that cause some ambitious moms in Medford Lakes have decided to organize a benefit.

The Medford Lakes Miles of Hope Run/Walk will take place on April 25, starting at 8 a.m. at 79 Tecumseh Trail. Early registration is open until April 23 and can be accomplished by visiting https://runsignup.com/Race/NJ/MedfordLakes/MedfordLakesMilesofHope.

The cost is $25 and there is a $3 sign up fee for adults. The cost for children is $15.

Event organizer Christina Singh hopes to raise at least $1000 for the local chapter of Autism Speaks. “So many of us in Medford Lakes and the surrounding areas have children on the spectrum,” said Singh. “It’s important for us to support the research, outreach and educational programs that Autism Speaks brings to us in South

Jersey.”

The Run/Walk will be a fast-paced 5K through the scenic trails and 21 lakes on a

USATF certified course in Medford Lakes. There will be a water stop on the course.

Registration starts 6:30 a.m. at Vaughan Community House, and the race will start there as well. T-shirts will be provided for all pre-registered runners and as supplies last on race day.

Prizes will be awarded to first, second and third overall runners as well as specific age groups. Children are encouraged to run too, and there will be a prize awarded to one from age group 14 and under, as well as 15 to 19. Families with children on the spectrum are especially invited to participate.

“We hope to make this an annual event,” Singh said. “But we cannot do that without community support. If you have ever thought about doing a 5K before, make this your first one!”
