A member of the MOMS Club of Medford’s son, who was born at 27 weeks 6 years ago and was a graduate of the NICU, helped his mother deliver the bags to the Virtua Voorhees NICU last week.[/caption]
The MOMS Club of the Medford Area collected items from within the group and within the local Medford community during the month of November. It then assembled care packages for families with infants in the Virtua Voorhees NICU. November was Prematurity Awareness Month and several of the group’s members and their families have had personal experiences with the NICU.
The MOMS Club felt that not only would its collection help brighten a family’s day but that it would also bring awareness to the difficulties faced by these families.
The items it collected included: journals, pens, cozy socks, tissue packs, hand sanitizer, mints/gum, small toiletries, hair ties, puzzle books and gift cards for coffee.
The organization was able to put together 21 bags and one of its members wrote a personalized letter of encouragement that she included in each bag. Another member put together a hand made tag for each bag.
The bags were delivered by a member and her son, who himself was a graduate of the NICU six years ago when he was born at 27 weeks. This was a very personal and important project for the group and it hopes that it was able to bring these families some comfort in the middle of an otherwise stressful and difficult time. The MOMS Club of the Medford Area wants to thank the community for their participation and donations.
