I’ve had a string of unrelated events occur recently that made me recognize something of a theme in my life, and it deals with an issue that is seldom ever spoken about.

I’m planning on going back to college soon, and there was a question on the application that reminded me of an event from my past and got me thinking. The question was about if I had ever faced any disciplinary charges or been suspended at the college I previously attended. I did, in fact, go through something of the sort over ten years ago.

I had a professor who was pretty openly dissatisfied with me and my performance in her class at the time. To be fair, I did put forward very little effort in her class, just enough to maintain a high grade. However, she was friends with another one of my professors, and they would talk, and he would tell her of the enormous effort I was giving in his class — doing projects outside of what was required of me and generally going above and beyond. The issue was that her class was extremely basic; she’d give us notes, and then read those same notes to us in class. I can read on my own, so I hardly saw any reason to attend at all.
