Living with Severe Lactose Intolerance

It’s not great!

Photo by Flash Dantz on Unsplash

Doubled up in pain hoping for a mild reaction. Brain fog, high temperature. Clothes off, freezing cold sweat is next. On the verge of passing out, my stomach convulsing. I don’t know whether my body will decide to vomit simultaneously. Sweat on my forehead. What did I eat? How many lactase pills have I taken?

In a best-case scenario an hour of lying down to slowly recover, sometimes I need to lie down all day. At worse, I’m hospitalized, put on fluids and medication to stop the stomach convulsions.
