I had high hopes when I started putting videos on YouTube.
It was in the heady early days, back in 2009. Vlogging was becoming a thing, and I thought it would be a good niche for me.
After all, I had no issues talking about myself, and could come up with topic ideas rapidly.
It was a lot of fun, and I had the chance to meet some nice people in the creator circles I became a part of.
I realized it wasn’t them, it was me…
But after some months, I realized I wasn’t really getting anywhere. I’m an older guy (in my 30s at the time), not really “conventionally attractive” and, though I could speak well and thought I had interesting things to talk about, I have to admit it wasn’t really what people were looking for at that moment.
I stopped making videos and moved on with my life. In fact, the creative burst I felt through making the videos gave me impetus to go back to my first love — writing.
