The First Blog I Ever Read

I still remember how it made me feel.

It was the early 2000s. My husband worked late, and after my toddler went to bed, I sometimes poked around online.

Social media wasn’t around yet, and Google wasn’t even really a “thing” — at least not a household name. The popular search engines for everyday households back then were Yahoo or AskJeeves, which I never used, so I must have been perusing Yahoo when searching the web to pass the time.

One night during my Yahoo time, I stumbled across a blog. It was not a blog as we know it today; this was a blog in its truest form.

Before blogging for business was even an idea, a blog was simply an online diary of sorts — a place where people would share their experiences, thoughts, and feelings without ads or elevator pitches, no sales funnel leading to a course or e-book.

I don’t remember how I found it, but I do remember what this blog contained.

It gripped me and never let me go.

I still think about it today.

A heart-wrenching mom blog.

A tender-hearted, strong, courageous mom was sharing her journey through her child’s cancer battle. I would return to my computer every day to see if she had posted a new entry. She…
