I recently considered resuming my long and colorful career as a licensed massage therapist in the United States after living in Germany for the past few years. With rose-colored glasses, I let my mind peruse and linger on many rewarding aspects of the job that I miss.

Coincidentally, the next day, a friend and fellow former massage therapist told me about a client pooping on a therapist’s table after their session, which made my jaw drop, shake my head and take a long, slow, deep breath.

A client has never desecrated my massage space in that way, but hearing about it took me down a rabbit hole of my own personal memories as I read about other people’s massage horror stories on a Reddit forum after my curiosity on the topic got the best of me.

With autumn falling upon some of us in the northern hemisphere and Halloween around the corner, I felt the timing was perfect to write and share this treat of the dark side of being a massage therapist.

Come along with me if you dare. There is some humor in the end (no pun intended).
