Rejection in Web3

Unfortunately, it’s guaranteed to happen. Here are my thoughts and tips.

It’s easier than ever to find like-minded people and connect. They’re just a DM away.

When we started the @Web3MHC, I was excited and reached out to a lot of projects. I thought to myself, “We have similar goals. They MUST wanna collaborate!”

Nope.

It hurt, and it was frustrating.

The MHC is fantastic… and yet, we’ve been rejected more times than we haven’t.

Why? I’ve asked a few times, but everyone is polite and vague. So I’ll never know. Maybe they had different goals, wanted to work alone, or didn’t like us or want to work with us.

That last one stings, but it’s true. Although it’s rare, some people might not like you.

The Truth is: Nobody Owes us Anything

I struggled with this. I still do a little.

This quote helped:

“You can’t make everyone love you. But that’s no tragedy. The real tragedy is failing to appreciate those who do.”

Focus on projects that want to support you instead of chasing after those who don’t.

Some people will either be supportive in their way or not at all. Accept it.

Enjoy what you’re building. It’s yours, not theirs.

Some tips that might reduce your odds of Rejection:

Do your Research

Learn about their values and goals. Offer something that makes sense to them.

Win or lose- you have more market research on your niche. You might be unique, but you aren’t alone. Get out of your head and gain perspective.

Simplify your Pitch

Organize yourself. Less is more!

Win or lose- frequent reviews of your project, your mission, and what value you offer are critical. Adjust and cut the fat.

Make a Website/Pitch Deck

Visual aids are great, and decisions aren’t always made on the spot. Give them something they can refer to later.

Win or lose- you have a reusable tool for people interested in you later.

Build without the help of others

When people say, “what have you done?” They don’t always mean, “what is your experience?” Sometimes, they mean, “what have you built so far?” It’s much easier to get behind the beginnings of something rather than just an idea.

Win or lose- ignore the Web3 popularity contest. Don’t wait for the approval of others to do what you’re passionate about!

In our experience, the more the MHC did and created, the better we got. The better we got, the more interested people became in it.

If you get rejected, you can also ask why. The closure is nice and helpful

  • if they respond, don’t get defensive
  • if they don’t respond, don’t insist! Remember, nobody owes you anything

Don’t tie your self-worth to these rejections. You’re awesome!

Keep going & Good Luck!
