Why it is okay for men to cry!
Men don’t cry! Wipe those tears away, act like everything is okay. Yes, fake it because nobody is ready to listen to your drama. You are a man; you are not allowed to be weak! Those are some of the most widespread statements men as well as young boys get to hear often if not all the time!
As any sane person would be able to tell that the human being consists of Body, Mind and Soul. And since the mind is a major as well as the main component of our structure, Let’s understand our mind more.
What goes on in your mind?
Our mind is like a huge library with many sections, one of those sections is only driven by emotions. This part of your mind is called the Emotion mind!
In fact, it is the opposite of another section called the logic mind, so when one acts high the other is low and so on. Having made this part clear for everyone, I would like to state that it’s okay for EVERYONE to cry. It’s okay and completely normal for men to have emotions that tend them to cry. Pain and happiness go parallel in this world.
I have no idea who started this tradition, where men are being called a sissy for revealing their emotions. But I strongly believe it’s time to stop that now!
Side effects of not allowing men to show or express their feelings freely:
As anyone of us needs to somehow get their emotions out, men need that too, since they are just humans like anyone else here! In fact, if they didn’t, they will turn to other options available, which aren’t very pleasant!
In my opinion, those are some side effects of sum up of suppressed emotions:
- Aggressiveness: It is a form of releasing pressure, of course, I’m not okay with being aggressive. But what other option is there if I can’t speak up?
- Acting like a clown: In other words, making everything a joke or being careless. It’s a type of escaping emotions. This might entertain others, but I strongly believe a person acting this way is not trying anything but to save himself from the pain that’s eating him up!
- Lack of confidence: sometimes we see shaky personalities, which might be nothing more than a lack of guidance or being lost somehow.
- Fear of emotions due to the lack of freedom of expression. And this is huge!
- Stone cold people: Those who are raised to let nothing affect them, and those are the worst of them all! Because emotions play such a big role in our life, being emotionless means nothing but being dead yet alive!
Does parenting play an important role?
Of course, if parents started to raise their child to be able to express his emotions freely, he will later become a man with balanced emotions. But unfortunately, it’s not just the household that needs to take action here, it’s the entire society! In other words, as a mother I can’t tell my son it’s okay to cry and when he goes on the streets people start mocking him or calling him names for showing his emotions! “Man up!!” they yell.
Where does the change have to start?
The change has to start from within each and every one of us! We can’t just ask for equality if the simplest human right is not given to some people! Some of us handle situations better than others! Just like everything else, some manage to do something while others miserable fail at it!
I am a woman who strongly believes men have the right to cry to be taken into a hug and to be told that things will be okay again! We all need this support. Although mental wellbeing is not much talked about, it is the most important thing one should focus on! If your mental wellbeing gets affected, nothing and I repeat nothing will be enjoyable nor feel good anymore!
To sum it up, be easy on each other and let’s all be the person to who others can vent. Emotional balance and wellbeing are as important as taking care of your physic. Express it to heal. Remember you can be in his position one day too! He’s a man but he’s only human!
