Mio named Gartner Cool Vendor for Connecting Digital Workplace Applications
Continuing a great 2019, we are delighted to announce that Gartner has formally recognized Mio as a Gartner Cool Vendor for Connecting Digital Workplace Applications and Services.
Each year, Gartner releases Cool Vendor reports across all forms of technology to highlight emerging companies that should be on the radar of businesses going through digital transformation or wishing to be at the forefront of innovation.
Gartner’s definition of a Cool Vendor is a company offering a technology or service that is:
- Innovative — enables users to do things they couldn’t do before
- Impactful — has or will have a business impact, not just technology for its own sake
- Intriguing — has caught Gartner’s interest during the past six months
Why Mio was recognized as a Gartner Cool Vendor
In the report compiled by Adam Preset, Lane Severson, Christopher Trueman, and Rashmi Choudhary, Gartner explains Mio’s inclusion as a Cool Vendor for 2019.
“Mio is cool because it has the potential to seamlessly unify conversations across teams on different workstream collaboration (WSC) platforms.”
Recognizing that Mio enables workers in multi-vendor environments to chat from the tool they like, the Gartner Cool Vendor report highlights Mio has a key differentiator to other message federation solutions.
“Organizations can create a recipe from modern, best-of-breed enterprise vendors for ChatOps, collaboration and communications.”
The report goes on to point out that the team collaboration and messaging markets will continue to fragment.
This is further emphasized by the sheer amount of alternatives to Slack we found when compiling the Workplace Messaging Report.
Our results found that 91% of businesses use at least 2 messaging apps.
Gartner agrees.
The report states that with no single platform likely to rule them all, interoperability must be high on the agenda of all IT professionals.
The impact of workplace silos and the running of multiple messaging platforms will not get better if businesses allow their technical decisions to be ruled by political one-size-fits-all preferences.

Mio CEO, Tom Hadfield, commented on the award:
“We are honored to be recognized as one of the leading innovations in collaboration. It’s humbling to be shortlisted alongside industry leaders like Microsoft and Cisco. It validates our hypothesis that enterprise customers want to keep their teams in sync across Microsoft Teams, Webex Teams and Slack.”

Citing Mio’s invisible functionality with APIs and interoperability expertise as primary reasons for inclusion, we take great pride in being the only message interoperability solution to offer a completely native experience.
