7 Macro-Habits for Better Leadership
Actions flourish on marble pillars.
The vision struck me like a thunderbolt from Zeus.
I imagined a great white marble pillar in ancient Greece upon which a green vine climbed and wrapped around with wild abandon. Those same vines on a dead tree or a pillar without vines wouldn’t hold half the beauty alone as they did together.
This was a vision of the nature of leadership.
Your leadership can flourish and grow like the vine through knowledgable actions, but when these actions aren’t wrapped around a solid form of you, they’re not as beautiful or effective as they could otherwise be.
The macro-habits of your life strengthen, clean, and chisel that you pillar so your wise actions have something to flourish on.
I’ve studied and practiced leadership for 25 years in military, business, and volunteer settings. Here are some habits I’ve found that build the pillar for your more beautifully effective leadership.
#1. Keeping your health in close proximity to its potential.
You don’t need to be a specimen of physical perfection, but if you don’t make a reasonable effort to take care of you, then why should people think you’d take care of them?
