How To Think Like a Leader People Love
Sometimes don’t think.
Leadership is an alchemic elixer of attitudes of ownership and perseverance, thoughts of caring and creativity, and actions reflecting competence and courage.
There are many articles on what you can do to be a better leader, but not many on how you can think to be one.
I’ve studied and practiced leadership for 25 years in military, business, and volunteer settings.
Here are a few ways some of the best leaders I’ve known think.
Sometimes don’t think.
“To handle yourself, use your head; to handle others, use your heart.”
There’s a missing element in many leadership discussions; compassion.
You truly have to care about the welfare of those you lead. Their lives. Their future. You don’t have to, but when you do people can feel it and they respond in the same way you respond when you know someone has your best interests truly at heart, you trust them more.
Of course, you must think with your head but also lead with your heart to make the true connections you need to make people want to follow you.
