Thoughts on Leader Development (cont.)
I concur that my “Thoughts on Leader Development” were mostly leader-centric. I know a little bit about the leadership theories you referenced — mostly conceptual — but not through any formal education. Your response made me think about how you might encourage and inspire some of the follower-centric leadership styles, as opposed to leader-centric, which I think the US Army still focuses on. I ended up doing a little more on-line research and found another good summary of leader-centric and follower-centric leadership styles at Regent University.
I am a huge fan of 360 evaluations to aid in self-awareness and development, but I haven’t been sold on their effectiveness as a method of Army-wide evaluation. I’m sure we’ll figure that out eventually though.
I’m curious, how does the German Bundeswehr approach 360 evaluations?
Do you have any recommendations on follower-centric leader development?
