Planned Parenthood Isn’t Just for Women and Abortions

About 12–13 hours ago, President Donald J. Trump’s administration has made the executive decision to possibly cut federal funding to Planned Parenthood due to undue pressure being placed on them from Republicans in Congress and lobbyists who are anti-abortion.

Anti-abortionists have launched a campaign urging the Trump administration to place abortion restrictions on federal family planning dollars that would target Planned Parenthood (#TBT to Reagan).

With these regulations enacted, organizations that receive family planning dollars under the Title X Family Planning Program (organizations providing services like birth control to low-income women and men, from promoting to referring patients regarding abortion) would be banned.

What Congressman Republicans and anti-abortionists don’t understand that abortions only make up 3% of the services provided by Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood also provides STI/STD testing, contraception, cancer screenings, and prenatal services.

Planned Parenthood isn’t also just for men. Men will also get use out of the condom distribution, sexual health checkups, STD screenings, etc., that are offered by the organization. The clinics also provide routine physical exams for prostate, colon, and testicular cancer screenings; infertility screenings; treatment for erectile dysfunction; and vasectomies.

Yes, Pro-Lifers may want to defund Planned Parenthood in order to reduce the number of abortions that they may offer, like promoting the choice of abortion, or referring patients for abortion, but if you take Planned Parenthood away, the privilege of being able to take responsibility for your sexual health will be too. Men and women are both sexual human beings. It’s not just a women’s problem. It’s a men’s problem too. And that is why I urge all men out there to support women in the movement of Planned Parenthood, and to understand that they too can benefit from their services.
