Right-Wing: Leave our guns alone! Stay out of people’s business!

Society: Ok, well lets also let the LGBT community have rights; And let people have abortions.

Right-Wing: No! We need to be able to determine how others should live!

Society:

It seems like since the turn of the millennium we have increasingly widened the gap between (for lack of a better term) the left and right-wings in America. There seems to be an increasingly large divide on things like LGBT rights, gun rights, reproductive health, immigration, health care, climate change, etc. Yet, despite research, data, and other resources from egghead scientists like myself, decreasingly people are valuing what we have to say. You hear things such as

“the immigrants are taking our jobs!” (because indeed, you had plans to work in the fields for $1.50 an hour, Bob).

Or “if we let men into the women’s bathroom, then that sets up people to be sexually assaulted!” (1. SHE’s not a man. 2. She literally just wants to use. the. bathroom)

Even “Guns don’t kill people; people kill people. And people are going to murder people regardless”

(Until everyone becomes ninjas, or we develop super speed, I doubt that someone could injure 900 people in 10 minutes with a knife).

We live in a country where people are more up in arms about their “right” to have a gun, than homelessness, child hunger, and the ability for people to simply NOT BE KILLED! We have data that supports the idea that having firearms does not increase safety; and that it actually DECREASES safety. These are the same people who want a gun to protect themselves, but refuse to allow access/use birth control. *Shrugs; why don’t we try to Make America Smart in the first place. as I’m not sure where this “again” thing comes from.
