As champions of innovation and entrepreneurship in Milton Keynes, MKIG is proud to announce an exciting new partnership with the Milton Keynes City Council. Together, we are creating the MK Tech Fund, a groundbreaking initiative designed to provide financial support to tech-based start-ups in the area. This venture will empower five selected businesses with grants of up to £7,000 each, offering the boost they need to bring their visions to life.

Supporting Local Tech Pioneers

MKIG is thrilled to collaborate with the city council to bring this vision to life. The MK Tech Fund is tailored for tech-based businesses with fewer than ten employees and less than three years of trading experience in Milton Keynes. We understand that innovation can come in various forms, and our definition of “tech” is broad, encompassing companies developing new technology or leveraging existing technology in innovative ways.

Fostering a Local Ecosystem

Milton Keynes boasts one of the highest rates of start-ups in the UK, and we are committed to keeping the local tech talent thriving within the city. Our mission is to create new opportunities and employment prospects as these businesses grow and evolve. This support is a testament to our belief that Milton Keynes is the ideal place to cultivate new tech ventures.

Seizing Opportunities

Founders in need of a modest financial boost to reach the next level or to kickstart a specific project are encouraged to apply for a grant. Whether you’re looking to secure a patent, cover legal fees, or launch a marketing campaign, the MK Tech Fund is here to support you. One of the five selected firms will even have the opportunity to secure an additional £5,000 next year through a competitive “dragon’s den” style pitch.

From the Economic Recovery Plan

Funding for the MK Tech Fund is sourced from the Milton Keynes City Council’s £3.5 million Economic Recovery Plan. This initiative has already made a significant impact by providing crucial support to local businesses and entrepreneurs following the challenges of the pandemic.

MKIG: Your Trusted Partner

MKIG is proud to manage the MK Tech Fund. As the largest not-for-profit angel network in the UK, we provide a free pitching platform for founders, and opportunities to meet active angel investors. Our doors are always open to MK-based startups seeking this type of financial support, making us the ideal partner for this initiative.

What Our Leaders Have to Say

Cllr Robin Bradburn, Deputy Leader of Milton Keynes City Council and Cabinet Lead for Economy and Recovery emphasises the importance of this initiative, stating,

“We think Milton Keynes is the best place in the UK to start a business, and we have one of the highest rates of start-ups. A modest financial boost at the right time can definitely be ‘make or break’ for a firm. That’s why we’re investing in the MK Tech Fund. Investing today creates opportunities for tomorrow, whether that’s good jobs for local people or tech innovations that were made and grown in MK.”
