The Sheru Within All Of Us

Not many of us can say that we have had an ‘unbelievable’ life so far. Some days are larger than life, and others tend to bring us back to the mar of reality and on those days, we try. The many well-wishers of success make you wonder, whether failure really is always in a closed room, alone. A miraculous win makes you wonder whether it was just one’s doggedness or it was, indeed, a miracle. And whether you even get to make these choices in black or white.
Lion, is one such story. [It is the movie of the year for me and no I didn’t cry. Nope. Not at all. Not even one tear, or a 1000.] The sturdy story of Lion really hits close to home, no matter who you are. Saroo Brierley’s quest to find his birth mother, that takes him across continents, spanning decades, facing incidents that can only be defined as serendipity, is not just a story that will wreck you, it is also a story that will inspire each one of us to create our own miracles.
While we can’t deny that young Saroo’s survival story, one that he stitched up from his faint memories, is something made of sheer luck, we also know that the rest of his story isn’t. Adult Saroo, is confident, he doesn’t pity himself, instead he grows more aware of his inner conflicts and decides to address them. Adult Saroo survives by taking chances, by battling his inner conflicts with extreme tenacity and the growing longing to reach his goal makes him create a legacy that we today deem miraculous.
I often wonder if taking chances is overtly glorified. I mean, for every person who takes chances and converts them to his glorious win, there are several others who perish. But, just for that one story, that single one that will give you goosebumps, you must challenge the status quo, take your chances and find your inner lion.
