What Lies Within You?

It’s the greatest gift you have to give

rite. It’s the first thing on my mind when I wake. It’s what I tell myself to do each morning. There is stuff in me that needs to come out. So I listen, and I write. But sometimes I can’t publish — it’s too much. I’m too much. My ego stops me.

Being human is amazing. And daunting. And scary. And joy-filled. I am in awe of the complexity of it.

Past. Present. Future. On the space-time plane, we live on a continuum, a straight line. But time doesn’t actually exist. It’s a man-made concept. And according to Einstein (and others), everyone’s perception of time is different. It’s called the Law of Special Relativity.

We live in a world that places great value on both past and future. History is about understanding where we came from so we can make progress toward where we are going. We are future-driven as a culture. Where we are tomorrow better be ‘better’ than today.

From the level of our mind, our entire existence as humans begins at birth, continues through life — all the things that ‘happen’ — until death. Really? Is that life? I call BS. It’s another construct of the ego. We are far greater than a sum of events.

Lately I’ve been pondering what it means to be fully alive. My life is simple, but I’m in love with it. I’m never bored. Like most, I’m busy with work, family, homesteading, learning. Days fly by. In quiet moments I reflect on how I’m making a difference, and ways I can adjust to affect others.

What is my purpose? Why am I really here?

The answer comes from within — not from my past, or future, but inside of me.

It’s only when I get quiet, drop down into the body that I have an inkling. But that’s the thing — it’s such a small voice. I have to repeat the quieting down often, otherwise the louder ego-voice (society-voice that directs how we should be living) drowns it out.

Our souls — all of the stuff inside of us is missed on life in comparison to what’s happened (the past) and what will happen (the future).

Think of the last conversation you had. Did you really listen, like for meaning? Or were you thinking of your next response as the person was talking? Almost all of us are guilty of it, and it’s only one small example of going to past or future vs. embodying the now — all that is within you.

“What lies behind us, and what lies before us are but tiny matters compared to what lies within us.”

Ralph Waldo Emerson

What lies within me is beyond the ego — beyond anything I can conceive with mind.

What lies within me is beautiful, magical, whole.

What lies within me is goodness and love.

What lies within me is where the past came from, where the future is going.

What lies within me is my true nature.

What lies within me is creation itself.

What lies within me is the Divine unfolding.

What lies within me is NOW.

It’s all there is. And it’s within you too. All of us.

What is in you that needs to express? What is happening in your life right now that you need to pay attention to?

Get quiet. Listen to the messages. Let them be your guide.

What kind of future might we create if we all do that?
