Let The Mob March On Without You

The complexity of life pursuits can be simplified. It’s easy if you replace your desire to simplify, with the action to do so.

Each day to move closer to simple, I check specific boxes underneath two action-categories: Capacity and Production.

Full capacity builds and fine-tunes the engine that is ready to perform in a variety of conditions. It ensures that all parts of my health always stretch forward.

Production takes that engine and uses it for good. To create, illuminate, and serve others. Every time I push the boundaries of production, I create just a little bit of new space to expand capacity.

This simple and complementary cycle works well for me. But, that’s not to say obstacles don’t appear.

Currently, one obstacle that tries to repeatedly drop itself into my path is the easy and low hanging negative fruit of mob mentality.

The behavior and habits of large groups is a cumbersome, lumbering shape-shifter. It looks for individuals who are not mindful in their daily practice.

When the mob mentality comes across the unaware, it sweeps them into its slow-creeping desires.

What seems simple in a group, can slowly convert to complications and unhappiness in your life.

Mob mentality appears to have attractive qualities. Connect with others or get something moving a little faster. But, it’s a trade-out. You trade your full capacity and positive production for their behaviors, and their habits, and their use of you as their actor.

Evil.

With hot coffee in hand, a recent pre-dawn fireside chat with our long-time family friend, Tom, took on the complicated topic of negativity. We drilled deeply into what blocks us from that which is truly important. Basically it comes down to negativity, other’s desires, and oftentimes: evil.

There are simple strategies, techniques and responses one can use to push back. Tom breaks it down into his 3 words: “Flee the evil.”

“Flee the evil” means to develop the awareness and actions needed to leave behind anything that does not positively serve you in your personal capacity and production.

If you are exhausted with the complexity of life pursuits or deep inside you feel confused in a complicated world and you’ve been looking for a sign or a way out, here it is:

Just stop. Let the mob march on without you. Don’t worry — you can catch up to them later… if you want.

As the mob moves further away and its voice dampens, ask yourself, “What am I missing?”

Then, turn in a full circle and look around. Not for another mob to join. Look at the open space. And a lot of capacity. For you. Simple.
