The Illusion of Tomorrow

I’m constantly surprised at how fast 3 months can go by.
The older I get, the truer this feels.
I blink, and here we are, 90 days later.

It’s so easy to let those weeks go by without changing the routine, without challenging yourself, without giving life a nudge.

Nobody wants their life to stay exactly the way it is now. There’s always a little something.
Take your pick: Stronger, fitter, thinner, more productive, more creative, more adventurous, more courageous, more leisure, less junk food, fewer screens, less social media, less shallow friendships, deeper friendships, better at X, know how to do Y, reconnect with loved ones, travel to [country], etc.

Yet most of us let time go by without doing anything about it.

Why do we mistakenly think we’ll have more willpower tomorrow than we do today?

This thinking makes us postpone constantly. The next day we feel the same as the day before: “I’ll just do it tomorrow…”

Before you know it, 3 months have gone by, and you realize you’ve stood still the whole time.

Today is the only day you can make a difference.

“What you do today can improve all your tomorrows.“ Ralph Marston.

You can’t sit on your butt and watch life as it goes by wondering who you would be if you actually did something.

Tomorrow might as well be never.

It doesn’t have to be hard, and it doesn’t have to feel like work for you to get fantastic results.

The secret is to do a little bit every day, and one day you’ll look back and be astounded at the progress you made.

You aren’t allowed to say to yourself: “That’s great advice, I’ll start tomorrow.”

Tomorrow is never, today is right now.

I challenge you to give life a nudge TODAY.

Whatever you’ve been postponing, do it today. Don’t go to bed until it’s done.

  • If you want to be in better shape, go out for a run, a bike ride, a workout, even a walk. Today.
  • If you’ve wanted to read a book, set a 10-minute timer right now and start reading.
  • If you’ve wanted to schedule a coffee with a friend or take a class, pick up your phone and do it right now.
  • If you aren’t sure whether or not you should reach out to someone, stop thinking about it and send that text already. Now.

You do it today as a gift for tomorrow.

Never forget Anais Nin’s wise words:

Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s courage.
