Breath… One (of many) inherited technologies that we take for granted. But what if we told you there was a correct — and incorrect — way of breathing? And that the naked mole rat knows how to do this best… which is why they live longer than any other rodent and barely age.

“Efficient breathing means that fewer free radicals are produced, reducing the risk of inflammation, tissue damage, and injury free.” ― Patrick McKeown

The Ninth Principle of Accelerated Learning: News That Matters

In this episode of The Mission Daily, we define ‘news that matters’.

“To be completely cured of newspapers, spend a year reading the previous week’s newspapers.” ― Nassim Nicholas Taleb

What many people call “news” is little more than a listicle of the worst things happening in the world. Most “news” is designed to promote fear, uncertainty, and doubt (FUD!). There is a new kind of news that matters, a kind of news that will give you the information you need to succeed.

Listen today, avoid news with FUD, and get ready for a deep dive into the news that really matters.

Is it time to take the baking soda out of your dresser drawer and start putting it into your morning beverage?

Maybe. If you’re struggling with an autoimmune disorder, drinking a solution of baking soda and water could help combat your symptoms. A healthier, happier you could be just a few sips away!

New research suggests that drinking the solution tells your body to make acid to prepare for an incoming meal, which in turn prevents your body from attacking healthy cells — the main problem caused by autoimmune diseases.

So drink up, and if you want to learn more, check here.

Fact: Puppies are cute at every age. But when are they the cutest? 🐶 🐶

Well, according to a new study, optimal puppy cuteness is achieved at 6 to 8 weeks. Interestingly, scientists believe that this age of adorableness is actually an evolutionary necessity:

“That’s around the time when puppies are weaned from their mothers, leading the researchers to hypothesize that puppies reach peak cuteness right when they need human care the most.

‘Just as their mother is getting sick of them and is going to kick them out of the den and they’re going to have to make their own way in life, at that age, that is exactly when they are most attractive to human beings,’ lead study author Clive Wynne said.”

More cuteness here.

Don’t worry, Toasty! We still think you are cute 24/7/365!

Tech Trends

Even if you’re terrified of spiders (count us in that bucket 🙄), this is pretty cool.

Scientists have trained a spider to jump to a designated target on command — a first in the world of spider training. But the experiment wasn’t just for fun. The results of the research are being used to understand how and why a spider’s anatomy allows it to jump huge distances relative to the size of its body. That information will then be applied to tech used in jumping micro-robots.

If you can stomach it, check out a high-speed video of the jumping spider here.

Marketing Trends

Play-Doh is trademarking their signature scent.

If you’ve ever opened a tub of the fun, moldable clay, you’re familiar with the smell that accompanies the dough. Some love it, some hate it, but either way, Play-Doh wants to make sure no one else can copy it.

To secure the trademark, the company first had to define the scent, which they did like this:

“…a sweet, slightly musky, vanilla fragrance, with slight overtones of cherry, combined with the smell of a salted, wheat-based dough.”

This type of trademark is in the sensory mark category, which means that Play-Doh can market the scent for licensing opportunities.
