You’re Not Losing Your Edge Because You’re Making Less Money Than Before

Don’t let the rules take the fun out writing

On the site formally known as Twitter I saw adjacent Medium writer Jillian Spiridon lament in a post formally known as a tweet that she’s not the writer that she once was.

Jillian has been publishing on Medium for a few years. She’s a member of the comma club. Jill’s the rare breed of writer that can make money writing whatever she felt like writing.

It’s not that quality of her writing has deteriorated, but changes to the platform have made her stories harder to find. Medium hit the kill button on sex and fiction last year which has turned many of the top earners on Medium in 2022 into Instacart drivers.

I suggested a reinvention of herself because I know a thing or two about reinventing myself as a writer. There’s been 4 iterations of Hogan Torah since 2019. I give all my persona periods names.

  1. Fake Hogan sounded like a good idea at the time. I didn’t want to be a guy who stopped doing heroin last month , so I made up this backstory of me being a Hollywood nepo baby that owned 2 Yogurtlands. Real likeable relatable character I created. Can’t imagine why that didn’t work. I pulled the plug after 3 months.
