I am Thinking of Making a Go Bag — Bug Out Bag

I am fascinated with the prepper movement and being prepared for any and all scenarios. I myself am not prepared for this but I am working on making a Go Bag or Bug Out Bag. Here is what I have come up with so far, let me know in the comments if you think I am missing something or if I should remove something and I know not all bags will fit all scenarios or people but I am trying to satisfy the most common scenarios for my self and my family.

I currently have a 511 Tactical Rush 12 Backpack in Sandstone I know this may not be the ideal size since it is somewhat smaller but I already have this bag and do not want to buy a new one.

The bag contents

Below I have listed categories that each piece aims to fulfill.

Water & Hydration

We all know that the human body can only go 72 hours without water, that’s why this is at the top of my list and even more so I live in the Desert where water is scarce and temps are easily over 110F in the summer.

Water Bottles already filled with water

LifeStraw water filter

Water bladders

Clothing

I have clothing second and not food because depending on the time of year in Arizona being protected from the sun is very important. Below is what I already have and don’t plan to buy anything extra. I will already likely be wearing jeans or shorts with tennis shoes of some type. If I had a larger bad I would consider adding boots of some type to this for more foot protection.

511 Stryke Pants they are super durable have a ton of pockets and are water resistant.

Long sleeve cotton shirt

A baseball cap

Food

The food I have is what is left over from my canoe adventure down the Allagash River in Maine. I may add more since if I do bug out I will have my family with me but one of them may have a dedicated food and water bag as their bugout bag.

Quest protein bars I have 12 bars in my bag stuffed in various pockets where ever there was some extra space, they don’t take water to eat and don’t taste horrible.

Emergency Food Rations bars I haven’t tasted these yet but they are in my bag as they seem fairly calorie dense and were inexpensive.

Mountain House Noodles and Chicken freeze dried food, no special reason I choose this brand or flavor it was just on sale when I went shopping for it.

First Aid

Having a first aid kit is essential if anyone needs some medical attention it makes sense to be prepared.

Basic Survival First Aid Kit

Tools

Here is where I had to start trimming down my list due to the size constraints of my bag. I originally had a small hatchet included in this list but I couldn’t fit it or attach it in a way that made sense.

Basic Pocket Knife

Basic camping cup

Multi-tool

Small LED flashlight

Waterproof Matches

Misc

I also have a few miscellaneous things that don’t fit into a category. I’m sure not all people will agree with carrying a firearm but I would rather be safe than sorry.

Glock 19 9mm with 2 extra magazines

Sanitary wipes so you dont smell too horrible if it goes past a day or 2.

Compass

Paracord

Like I said before, I am just getting started so if you have any recommendations or suggestions please let me know if the comments.
