If you have ever gone to Jefferson Montessori Academy at a young age then odds are you know Mrs. Amanda Carrasco. She first started the road to educating children back when she was in college. She had been falling behind in some of her classes and needed a tutor. And someone whom Carrasco highly reveres answered the call, her name was Virginia Wolk. Wolk was very patient and didn’t become upset when Carrasco was having trouble understanding what was being taught, she instead found a different way to convey the message that Carrasco could understand. Wolk was a very busy person who didn’t have time for tutoring but did it regardless. Amanda has admired her ever since and says that “she really inspired [her],” to become a teacher.

Carrasco says that she started her teaching career because she wanted to be apart of children’s lives and wanted to make an impact on them and mold them into educated adults. And she believes that she has. Carrasco’s favorite part of teaching is when the children light up and become excited when they are learning something new. Carrasco also said she enjoys teaching the younger generations because they are generally happier, more respectful, and easier to deal with.

Carrasco stated that the hardest part of her job as an educator is sending the children on to the next grade because throughout the year (and occasionally years) she becomes attached to each individual student and treats each one as her own. After school and during the summer Carrasco likes to unwind and work on things throughout her house that she would normally not be able to because of her schedule during school hours. She also spends a lot of her free time hanging out with her own children and staying home to relax.
