Loretta Wilson , a teacher at Jefferson Montessori Academy, gave us a look into her peace filled teaching career.

Wilson, a teacher of 13 years, has been working at JMA for seven of those years. She is the school counselor for all grades, a high school math teacher, and the creator of the famous “Peace Award.”

Loretta gave a couple of reasons for wanting to become a teacher. She stated, “I knew I wanted to be a teacher when I started school. I loved going to school and thought that all of my teachers jobs were fascinating.” Wilson, in college, never once changed her degree; but she graduated with a degree in Physical Education, Mathematics, and Counselling.

In Wilson’s high school years, she played sports. She mainly played basketball and showed huge support to her teammates and coaches. She was an excellent scholar and loved to learn new things.

During the last three years,Wilson created the legendary “Peace Award.” Wilson created the award because, “ As an educator you want to see all of your students getting along. I wanted to be the person who could help students get along with each other in the midst of a difficult time without conflict.”

In a dream one night Wilson described that the acronym for “Peace” came to her. The acronym is as stated, “People Exhibiting Attitudes of Compassion Everywhere.” These are the words Wilson lives by.

Today Wilson loves spending time with her kids and enjoys the outdoors, she finds the outdoors peaceful and relaxing.
