Citizens across Farmington, New Mexico are mourning a loss of one of their local fireman of 19 years, Lt. Shadd Rohwer. Rohwer, 44, died on January 17th after a three year battle with cancer.

Lt. Rohwer developed cancer in 2015 after he was exposed to hazards in the line of duty. “It’s ironic in a way, but I mean Shadd was about safety. He was always about wearing his personal protective equipment.” Capt. Jacob Crane stated.

Shortly after Rohwer developed cancer, he was one of the first firefighters to receive financial help from an occupational disease act introduced the year before.

His memorial was held on Sunday January 21st at 2 p.m. at the Henderson Fine Arts Theatre at San Juan College.

If you would like to give your condolences to the family, they can be sent to PO Box 6221, Farmington, NM 87499–6221.
