As the world grapples with the latest COVID-19 variant, doctors are scrambling to figure out what's different about this latest wave dubbed Omicron.

Omicron has now defeated Delta as the dominant strain, spreading almost as fast as any pathogen in recorded history.

However, Omicron might be more mild than other variants, according to the New York Times, which could signal the end of the pandemic, though this is hotly debated.

The combination of spreading easily yet being less severe is how pandemics end, but if too many people remain unvaccinated, it could take awhile.

As the pathogen begins to assimilate into our life until most people get it at some point (even if they don’t feel it), that’s when it may subside, just like the Spanish flu that still lingers today with mild variants.

But now that Omicron has been here awhile, we’re getting more familiar with the symptoms.
