Omicron May Be End of Pandemic, But the Media Wants to Scare You

In something like a Netflix series gone bad, the world is going crazy over the latest Covid variant, giving it the cinematic name, Omicron.

The thing is, being a journalist, I like to deep-dive through the stories to see what's actually happening. For instance, many of the headlines about Omicron now in the US induce panic like this:

However, when I click on the "Outbreak" headline, I find out that 8 people in metropolitan New York have it, all with mild cases.

This isn't to say that this new variant couldn't morph into something worse, but why does the news media always slant toward panic when it comes to each new Covid development?

In a word: Money.

Money really does makes the world go around, and you know how the news media makes money? From people clicking their headlines and reading their articles and then clicking on the ads.
