First United Methodist goes solar
The church is placing solar panels on their roof.
Believing that being good stewards of God’s Earth is important, First United Methodist Church has been researching solar power for five to 10 years. This year, they were able to come to an agreement with a company to place solar panels on our roof.
The church has entered into a power purchase agreement, in which a third party provides the upfront capital investment for all the panels and their installation. The church agreed to purchase all the power generated from the solar arrays at a negotiated price, which happens to be less than they currently pay for power. The savings can then go back into their mission.
The installation is a 204 kilowatt system, and should provide almost all of the electrical power needed for the church. The system should have at least a 25 year lifespan, providing clean energy and reducing their carbon footprint.
