We’ve all been there. You’ve got an appointment, class, three club meetings, and four essays due tomorrow. It’s easy to get lost in this whirlwind of activity and start staring endlessly at your planner instead of enjoying what you’re doing. It can be difficult to find a moment to breathe, but you have to remember to enjoy the present! Here are three easy ways to de-stress that won’t take up too much of your time:

1. Study or Work Outside

You know that four hundred page book you have to read for English? If it’s a nice day out, take advantage of it. Find a patch of green, sink into the grass, and get to work. This place could be the quad on your campus, your lawn, or maybe a nearby park. Connecting with nature, even while you work, can be refreshing and grounding. Don’t underestimate the power of a little fresh air!

2. Clean. Just do it!

I know, I know. You’re thinking, “Aren’t we supposed to be talking about stress relief?” You’re right, but trust me on this. A little tidying up can go a long way. Take twenty minutes and see what you can get done. Focus on the general clutter and mess first. Put things away and spray a bit of air freshener. This can be a daily routine that keeps the mess from accumulating and makes you feel better about your environment. You may be surprised at the difference it makes in your mood. Bonus: Put on your favorite music while you clean.

3. Journal or Make Video Diaries

Take thirty minutes and express yourself. One great way to do this is by writing journal entries or talking about your feelings to the camera. Doing this can help you process what has happened during the day and clear your mind. The advantage of this option is that it creates a record you can read when you’re nostalgic. Every person has their own preferred form of self-expression. It isn’t writing for everyone, so find your outlet. Dancing, playing an instrument, and cooking are all great examples.

Remember to find time to relax, but also remember to be present and have fun. Work hard, savor life, and do the little things that help you enjoy every minute of the day.
