Really looking forward to reading Democracy or Else: How to Save America In 10 Easy Steps because my fangirldom for all things Crooked Media continues apace. But seriously, looking forward to reading this as a salve to compounding election anxiety. And now I’m going down a press rabbit hole from the Crooked Media Discord, and can’t stop thinking about the Vonnegut quote Lovett mentions in this Distractify interview. Anyhoo, I do not work for that company, and have no personal connection to that company, and am in no way whatsoever financially incentivized to spend this much time with that company’s canon of content, but am fully pulled into the Crooked Cinematic Universe at this point. - Continuing yesterday’s face-melting political realities, Mum of the Missive wanted me to share the latest mainstream coverage of how conservatives in the U.S. want to get rid of the ability to “end a marriage without having to prove a spouse did something wrong, like commit adultery or domestic violence.” It’s bonkers to remember that before 1969, you had to prove spousal wrongdoing in a court of law in order to get out of a union. And if you couldn’t do that, or get your spouse to agree to it, you’d be unable to walk away with “assets from the marriage” or THE ABILITY TO RE-MARRY. As someone who went through a divorce without property or children that was still contentious AF, I cannot imagine how much more traumatic it would have been if I’d had to make my case for the mere ability to leave. This bullshit, the draconian abortion laws, increased measures that crack down on expressions of LGBTQ+ identity, all of this is about the desire of one group of people to control everyone else. It’s disgusting and scary: ‘Conservative US lawmakers are pushing for an end to no-fault divorce’ (The Guardian).

- If you’ve watched any of The Boys on Amazon, you’ll chuckle at this headline: ‘The whole time? The Boys has been making fun of Trumpers the whole time?!’ (Vox). With this new season, the series is getting review-bombed by viewers surprised to find that the show is “woke”, and that is… something.
