This Week Is The Longest Month Ever (But This Time, In A Good Way)
Pace yourselves, humans, we’ve got a long autumn ahead of us.

Y’all still coconut-pilled? I know I am. So the below is a bit frenetic, because there’s a lot going on and a lot to read and it was hard to pick what to share so LET’S GET TO THE INTERNET, SHALL WE?
- Re: above, I am so so so jazzed about the fact that Gen Z embraces people in their awkward nerdy enthusiasm. As Charlie Warzel points out in his Atlantic piece, ‘Trump Versus the Coconut-Pilled’, “this energy isn’t a liability on today’s internet” and “A little bit of strangeness — especially if it seems harmless — is an excellent way for a candidate to attract attention online.” So let’s talk about the explosion of social media chatter about the VP: ‘There’s a lot more to the Kamala Harris memes than you think’ (TechCrunch)
- And it’s important that we find stuff that gets us excited about this election, because as magical as the last few days have been, we know this exhilaration can’t last forever (as pointed out on Threads by mo husseini,) and that once the Trump campaign gets off their back foot, they are coming at Harris in the ugliest possible manner: ‘Trump Camp Is Planning to ‘Willie Horton’ Kamala Harris’ (The Bulwark) and ‘A guide to the coming attacks on Kamala Harris’ (Popular Information)
- There is so much about this headline that chills me to my core: ‘Heritage Foundation Claims to Use Location Data to Track Trump Shooter’s Movements’ (404 Media). Because if the Heritage Foundation can figure out the movements of one individual based on ad location data, imagine what else they could use that for (see: ‘JD Vance, Menstrual Surveillance Hawk’, TPM)
- Like above, we need to constantly remind ourselves over the next 100 days of the myriad life or death reasons why this election is so freaking important: ‘Trump’s Massive Deportation Plan Echoes Concentration Camp History’ (Scientific American) < — FYI, this is written by the woman who wrote one of the definitive histories of concentration camps so, uh, yea, yikes.
- And finally, count me as part of the fictional 22%, because I saw Twisters and I loved it: ‘Report: 78% Of Americans Too Distracted By Politics To Appreciate The Summer Glen Powell Is Having’ (The Onion)
- OK, one more “and finally”: ‘Sharks off Brazil coast test positive for cocaine’ (BBC). I look forward to the sequel to Cocaine Bear that no one asked for.
PHEW, that’s a lot. Drink some water. Get outside. Be kind to each other.
xoxo Amy
