When it Comes to More Kids, Should You Follow Your Head or Your Heart?

In my case, the debate has been settled.

My husband and I have always dreamed of a bigger family, but lately, we find ourselves questioning whether we should make that our reality.

We have two daughters, two happy, healthy, and perfect little girls. They have fulfilled us in a way that only a parent knows possible. We are overjoyed with the family we have, but our dream was three children.

When it comes to having another child, our heads say one thing but our hearts say another.

According to our heads, we are done having children.

Things have settled in our life as a family of four. The routine is established, well, as established as it can be with a seven-month-old and a 2.5-year-old. And though life is chaotic, there's a certain amount of predictability to it all. Certainly, we would find a new normal if we have a third child, but there would be an additional layer of complexity.

We do our best to make sure our oldest gets plenty of one-on-one time with each of us. And as our infant grows, it will be important that we do the same for her. The destructive energy is palpable when our oldest needs some mommy time, and some of the…
