The Institute for Mountain Research invites applications for our first Student/Faculty Research grants. These two grants are meant to sponsor co-research between a student ($1,250 stipend) and a faculty member ($750 stipend). Co-researchers will craft a Mountain research question, create a research plan, conduct their research, report progress periodically on IMR’s website, and present their results at a public forum.

Student-faculty research stipends are open to half-time and full-time Westminster faculty in all disciplines. Research is expected to be conducted in accordance with the best scholarly practices of the given discipline.

The research project is not to be part of an academic credit-bearing experience (e.g., a course, directed or independent study, thesis, practicum, etc.) and must involve the faculty member in a collaborative role on an ongoing basis for most of the summer and must result in a public presentation of results. The faculty mentor is a collaborator who is engaged in the project along with the student or students, providing consistent supervision and feedback.

Applications include a brief research proposal and information on student and faculty activities/responsibilities (five pages maximum). Applications can be sent to the application dropbox.

Deadline for application: 1 April 2016

Recipients will be announced by 15 April 2016

Funds will be disbursed by 30 April 2016

Two page progress reports are due monthly by 1 June, 1 July, 1 August

Publication of final results on IMR website by 1 September 2016

Public presentation TBD, Fall semester 2016
