Don’t Choose A Career, Choose A Life

Because I couldn’t imagine doing the same thing everyday

It’s interesting how different the entrepreneur’s mindset is compared to those who simply pick a career to stick to for most of their life. It seems unimaginable having a handful of careers that you haven’t technically experienced yet, and having to choose one and try to stick to it for 40+ years.

During the introduction of one of my classes, we were asked what direction we wanted to go towards in life after college, and I couldn’t help but notice most kids saying, “Not really sure what I want to do yet, but I know I don’t want a boss.” With technology influencing the work force so much, the younger generations are quickly realizing that you don’t actually need a boss anymore. And seriously… who would want one? Not to mention, we are becoming an extremely distracted generation, meaning with so much information on the tip of our fingers, it’s hard to stay interested in the same thing, because you are constantly discovering and getting into new things. An entrepreneur or anyone self-employed has unlimited freedom to create what they want, and do a variety of projects in a limitless amount of different fields, subjects, hobbies, etc. It’s a complete shift in understanding and thinking how you want to go about your lifetime of work.

“Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do.” -Steve Jobs

It used to be about safety and security, a job that will provide for you for years and years, but that is virtually non-existent anymore. Instead of picking a comfortable path, a comfortable career, why not just choose a life, and a lifestyle that gives you ultimate success. Learn how to monetize off what you truly enjoy doing. With the power of the internet, it’s almost too easy.
