Burlington County seeks volunteers for county park cleanup days
The Burlington County Freeholders are seeking volunteers through the Clean Communities Office to participate in the first of three County park cleanup days scheduled to take place during April.
“Burlington County residents will once again have the opportunity to play a substantial role in keeping our communities clean and green,” said freeholder Mary Ann O’Brien. “Now in its sixth year, our County Park Clean Up Days have seen hundreds of volunteers of all ages donating their time for a good cause.”
For all events, volunteers are encouraged to bring drinking water and wear long pants, long sleeves, long socks and sturdy close-toed shoes that can get muddy. Bags and gloves will be provided. Participants younger than age 16 must be accompanied by an adult, and letters documenting volunteer community service will be available to students. (Severe weather will cancel the event.)
The first cleanup day is scheduled for Saturday, April 9 at Pennington Park, on Creek Road, in Delanco. For the sixth year, volunteers will help inventory and collect litter along the shoreline of the Rancocas Creek at this 140-acre park. The cleanup runs from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. (sign in begins at 9:45 a.m.).
Meet in the parking lot to the right of the main entrance.
Other cleanup days in Burlington County include:
— Saturday, April 23, 9 to 11 a.m., at Amico Island Park, Norman Avenue, Delran.
Celebrate Earth Day! Help inventory and collect litter and debris along the trails and shoreline of this 55-acre park.
Earth Day Hikes will also be taking place at noon and 2 p.m.
All are invited to participate in nature walks that will be given by park naturalists.
Groups are also encouraged to schedule a cleanup of the shoreline at Amico Island Park during low tide, to clear the litter brought in daily by the tides.
— Saturday April 23, 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., at Palmyra Cove Nature Park, Palmyra. At the Adopt a Beach Spring Cleanup, volunteers will help collect litter along the shoreline.
Registration for these events is requested for planning, but attendees are free to just show up.
Individuals should contact the Clean Communities office at cleancomm@co.burlington.nj.us, or (609) 499–1001, ext. 266 and provide name, town, email, and phone number if they wish to register.
