The Light of Music Illuminates Darkness and Dark Music Does Not Dim the Lights
Both connect us to memories both emotional and tangible
Nearly six months ago, Chelsea Nelthropp, an amazing poet, said to me in a response thread to my Elegiastic Ode to Joy, Life, and Death, Poetically babbling brooks converge into streams and rivers of consciousness, in which I included references or links to at least 18 songs (our thread started with her highlighting and responding to my link to The Killers’ Human):
“I love this song. Have you always been a music lover? I’m excited to listen to all of the songs/bands you mentioned throughout your poem. This piece was a beautiful ‘ode’ to Lindsey.”
Since then, that portion of today’s post has not only sat in my drafts but also remained open in my browser to remind me of the presence of the beauty that is the light of music (I’m tearing up over that line that just hit me, which draws from this R.E.M. song), and to complete this post when I felt the pull.
This is the Day, The The sang that I would feel the pull today. Do my readers feel my tears through the screen as this R.E.M. song plays as I type, which led me to The The’s song? (The wailing on the street…)(This piece will circle back to that).
