He didn’t say anything

Just a stare, a mysterious gaze at me
I would have understood if he chose to cringe
But he stood as fixed as a tree
Five blinks save one were all he gave

What were his momentary thoughts?
I had asked such a simple question
But he seemed not to connect the dots
Although it has some strings of uncertainty

All I wanted was an answer
To cut through this silence, dead as grave
But all through the discourse
He didn’t say anything.
