MyFarmBase Hosts Talk Session on AgriTech for Profits at SMW 2019

As a foremost Agric-Tech organization that leverages innovative technologies, MyFarmBase hosted top agric experts on Thursday, 7th February in a talk session tagged AgriTech for Profits in Emerging Markets at Social Media Week 2019. The 5- man panel session was moderated by Iyanuoluwa Aliu, MyFarmBase’s Chief Administrator.

The panelists — Sipasi Ayodele, CEO, ProtectOzone, Samson Ogbole, Co-Founder, PS Nutraceuticals, Lilian Onyegbalum, Agribusiness Consultant, Engr. Adegoke Adekola, National Country Director, CAVA 2, FUNAAB (who represented Professor Lateef Sanni, DVC, FUNAAB) and Oluwafemi Aliu, CEO, MyFarmBase enlightened participants on effective strategies of tech use in Agriculture and exposed them to opportunities in the agric sector.

In an engaging and highly interactive manner, the panelists took the audience through the concept of blockchain, climate-smart agriculture, aeroponics, researches and data analysis and the role of tertiary institutions in promoting inclusivity of youths in agriculture. “Agriculture is not for illiterates” says Engr Adegoke who charged tertiary institutions to train agriculture students on practical know-how before graduating.

In his remarks, Oluwafemi harped on the non-reliance of youths on government for funds, saying the only way we can achieve food security is through the rise of agripreneurs who would dare to capitalize on emerging technologies to boost food productivity. Also speaking, Lilian excited the audience creating amazing business ideas/suggestions across the agric value chains whilst also citing examples from innovative agric firms across the world.

“Research is very important, so is disseminating the knowledge gained from the research” says Sipasi, a participant at the recent concluded in Netherlands, emphasizing that tertiary institutions have a role to play in enlightening small holder farmers who are major stake holders in the food production process in Africa. Samson charged the youths to make farming sexy for themselves citing examples from his aeroponics farm and also warned against reliance on government.

On a closing note, Iyanuoluwa used the opportunity to tell the audience about MyFarmBase #AgroLatestChat where international experts are been invited to provide solutions to agric-related challenges.
