Hoia Baciu, even its name roughly translated as “Shepherd’s Forest” alludes to its reputation for paranormal activity. Local legend has it that one day a shepherd and his 200 sheep ventured into the forest to allow the sheep to graze. Neither the shepherd nor any of his sheep were ever seen again.

Situated in the notoriously spooky Transylvania region of Romania just west of the city of Cluj-Napoca, the forest is only about 3 square km or less than 2 square miles. Despite its relatively small size, Hoia Baciu’s notoriety for unexplained paranormal and supernatural events is well documented.

Throughout the years, there have been reports of UFO sightings, disappearances, ghostly apparitions, strange shadows and sounds among the trees, and other mysterious phenomena.
