It was 2008 and life was looking good for Charles E Peck from Salt Lake City. He had found love again following a divorce, and he was keen to move in with his fiancee Andrea in California so they could finally start planning their wedding.

Tragically though, the pair would never get to walk down the aisle. And the manner of his death in one of the worst rail crashes in US history would spark a mystery that remains unsolved to this day.

The fateful train ride

September 12th 2008, and 49-year-old Charles Peck was on his way to Los Angeles for a job interview. He had worked as a customer service agent for Delta Airlines at Salt Lake City International Airport for 19 years, but he knew now was the time to make a change.

His fiancee Andrew Katz, to whom he had got engaged seven months earlier, wanted them to live in the same state before they tied the knot. So, when a vacancy arose at Van Nuys Airport, it must have seemed like fate was intervening.

Charles boarded a plane to Los Angeles for the interview and then caught the Metrolink to its last stop at Moorpark…
