In June of 1969, Dennis Martin was a precocious 6-year-old boy, just days away from his 7th birthday.

Dennis had some mild learning disabilities and was thrilled that this year his dad would be taking him on a traditional camping and hiking trip over father’s day weekend. This trip would be Dennis, his father, his older brother Douglas and his grandfather, Clyde. A real guys' weekend in the Great Smoky Mountains.

The boys would all leave for their trip on June 13, 1969- Friday the 13th.

That day would be uneventful, however.

Saturday, June 14th would change all of that.

During a mid-afternoon hike, Dennis and his brother, along with two other boys they had met up with on the hike, went to hide behind some trees and brush hoping to jump out and scare the adults.

But Dennis never jumped out as planned.

In fact, 6-year-old Dennis would vanish into the Great Smoky Mountains, without a trace.
