Serial killers have long been a fascination in our society, but often with all the sensationalization and stories, an important aspect is forgotten: their victims. Most prolific serial killers have at least one unidentified victim, especially ones that targeted vulnerable populations. When serial killers’ stories are told, these unclaimed and unidentified individuals are often not mentioned, which is a shame because who should we be remembering? The victims or the killer? Anyone could tell you who Jeffrey Dahmer, Jack The Ripper, or H. H. Holmes was, but would likely be unable to name a single one of their victims. Today we’re remembering the first of two victims of a serial killer that are yet to get justice. This is the story of Eklutna Annie.

A Body Is Found

On July 17, 1980, a group of construction workers were in a remote site off of Eklutna Lake Road in Alaska working on power lines when they noticed something at that base of one. As they were digging, they noticed the there appeared to be bones buried in a shallow grave at the base of the electrical pole. When they unearthed the bones and saw that they contained a human skull with some flesh still attached, the construction workers called the authorities immediately. The remains were taken…
