In the 1920s, Howard Carter and his team excavated the tomb of the Egyptian king Pharaoh Tutankhamun. Only a few months later one by one the people involved in the excavation died mysteriously. This led to speculation that the Egyptian ruler’s tomb carried a curse.

Tutankhamun, or King Tut, was a Pharaoh of the 18th dynasty of Egypt who ruled in 1333–1324 BC. Tutankamun, which means ‘the living incarnation of Amun,’ came to power when he was 9–10 years old. He was the son of Akhenaten (formerly Amenhotep IV).

On 4 November 1922, British archaeologist and Egyptologist Howard Carter and his team managed to find the stairway leading to the pharaoh’s tomb located in the Valley of the Kings. The Valley of the Kings itself is located on the west bank of the Nile around the city of Thebe or Luxor.
