A Funny Incident That Still Makes Me Laugh
Even though it happened over 40 years ago
I was chatting with family yesterday. We reminisced about our various inter-city moves and couldn't help laughing at some of the weird situations we have faced. The conversation turned to the younger generation and we went down the “what are they doing now” route.
Naturally. we had to recall spotlights from when they were toddlers and we cackled until tears streamed down our faces over one particular incident.
It happened in 1982.
I was in my first year of college, studying for a B.Sc. degree. We — my grandma, my uncle (mom’s brother), and aunt, and my mom and I had just moved to Madras (South India) from Telangana.
Our house was on a quiet street. Our landlords occupied the first floor. Their family comprised of a sickly guy — who always seemed to have the aura of Vicks or liniment smell around him — and his mom, an absolutely chirpy full-of-life lady. They were kind people.
The ground floor was divided into two portions — we occupied the one with the front entrance. Another family resided in the second portion with the side entrance to the building.
