Writing, editing, publishing — it’s a lot sometimes. I don’t know how some people are able to do it all. It can be overwhelming.

But then a story is submitted to one of our Parasol Publications that reminds me why I’m here.

Many of our writers are talented and well-known on the platform. Our focus on quality writing since our inception means that the best of the best are published with us. Many of those stories are Boosted — but not all of them.

This week I struggled to find balance in my life and inspiration for my own writing. I focused my attention on the essays published here and I was entertained, challenged, and inspired.

Here are some of my favorites from the past week. Each of them demonstrates exceptional writing.

Val Francis, a queer essayist, wrote a heartwarming essay about being adopted by a drag queen. His humor shines through as he shares his story as a 21-year-old, new to the gay scene, who finds kindness and support from a caring drag performer in Brisbane.
